PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello, and welcome to a new year with OPOA. The fall 2009 conference is over, and we had some great training. As you all know, part of the OPOA Conference is the Awards Banquet, with acknowledgments given to all types of law enforcement throughout the year who have excelled in and above the call of duty. We had approximately 230 people attend this years Banquet and it was an honor to be part of the presentation of the awards.

It’s a privilege and an honor to be selected as the 2010 President of the Oregon Peace Officers Association. I am excited about the future of our organization, and have some big shoes to fill following Mark Posler as our past President. I am lucky to have the help this year from Mike Wells who is our 1st Vice President, and Dave White who is our 2nd Vice President. We have been able to twist the arm of several other members to stay on and continue with our mission. Steve Piper will be heading up our Web and this month’s news letter. Our Treasurer, Marian Nemeth said she is in again for another year, and Larry Stephens as our Business Secretary. We also have the continued support from many past executive board members.

The OPOA will continue to offer training throughout the State of Oregon and is looking at ways to put on even more training. I have always been very passionate about training and our goal is to make training accessible to every officer wanting to improve their skills and maintain their certifications. The OPOA is not just about training it’s also about networking and having a professional organization you would be proud to be a member.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming OPOA Major Crimes Conference February 9-12, 2010. Once again our national and local speakers will share with you their knowledge and expertise including lessons learned from some high profile cases. Scheduled presentations include the “Portland Seven” Terrorism case, the D.C. Sniper investigation, White Collar Crimes, Computer Forensics, and other topics.
