ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA & GUIDELINES
1. The Oregon Peace Officers Association Executive Board or designee will
publicize the Scholarship, solicit applications, select the recipient(s)
and one or more alternate winners, and announce the results in May, prior
to the end of the school year.
2. The applicant must be a dependent of a current Oregon
Peace Officer Association member.
3. Must be between the ages of 18 and 25, and a citizen of the United States.
4. Must submit a letter of recommendation from an Oregon law enforcement
officer.
5. Must submit a brief one page double spaced essay outlining the
applicant's achievements, career aspirations, future academic and life
goals. The essay must be typed or computer written, signed and dated.
6. Must be either a high school senior, it's related equivalent, or
currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education within
the state of Oregon with 12 or more credits per term, who is pursuing a
career in Criminal Justice .
7. The Scholarship will be based on proof of a 3.0 or better cumulative G.P.A. certified copy of grade transcript from the applicant's high school
or college.
8. If requested, must submit to an oral interview with the Oregon Peace
Officers Association Scholarship Committee, time and date to be set by the
Scholarship Committee.
9. Only fully completed applications will be considered, and finalists
will be selected from the initial applications. Closing date for
applications shall be April 30th of each year. Notification will be made to
the recipient(s) by mail from the Oregon Peace Officers Association
Secretary, as soon as possible after the selection.
10. The Scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded to the recipient through the
Financial Aid Office of the college designated by the recipient,
to be used for registration at the college.
