Class Overview

Audience: LE, Medics, DME's, DA's Sponsor: OPOA & Linn County Sheriff's Office Two sessions: Option A - 8:00 am - 12:00pm, Option B 1:00pm - 5:00pm Overview: Jennifer will share national best practice recommendations and emphasize the importance of collaboration in strangulation recognition and response. This training begins with an overview of other forms of asphyxiation. Related anatomy (structure) and physiology (function) will be discussed. With this foundation established, the signs, symptoms and significance of strangulation are presented. Investigative tips and techniques will be offered, including approaches to interviews, written and photodocumentation, and the use of body maps and other physical assessment tools. Instructor: Jennifer R. Snippen PhD MA BSN F-ABMDI Jennifer is a Board Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator, American Academy of Forensic Sciences Fellow and serves on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. She was a Chief Deputy Medical Examiner (medicolegal death investigator) for over a decade and is an experienced critical care/trauma nurse. Jennifer has extensive experience with strangulation investigations and has testified as a strangulation expert witness in numerous counties throughout Oregon. She is also on the faculty at Lane Community College where she teaches human anatomy and physiology.
